MYERSTOWN – Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) announced the Commonwealth Finance Authority, is awarding just over $1 million to Bayer Healthcare of Myerstown for a combined heat and power system improvement.
The program is jointly administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
“This is a great investment in Bayer, Myerstown and Lebanon County as the company employs many residents,” said Diamond. “This will improve the energy system of the company in an age where we are looking for new and better ways to cut energy costs, while improving quality.”
Funds go to projects using alternative energy, compressed natural gas and other energy conservation projects.
Bayer is looking to purchase and install a 2,000 kilowatt combined heat and water (CHP) system which produces both electric and steam energy. The waste heat from this CHP system will produce steam and domestic hot water. The project is being aided by more than $3 in matching funds from Bayer Healthcare.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Energy has recommended this project.
Bayer Healthcare is a global leader in over-the-counter brands, nutritional supplements and other self-care products.
