HARRISBURG – Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) was assigned to serve on four standing House committees during the 2019-20 legislative session: Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Finance, Gaming Oversight and State Government.
The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.
“Agriculture is such a critical part of the 102nd District's economy, so remaining on that committee was very important to me. Returning to the Gaming Oversight Committee will allow me to continue to fight for Lebanon County’s fair share of revenue from casino proceeds,” Diamond said.
The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee deals with an array of legislation directly impacting the state’s farmers and farming operations, timber industry, horse and harness racing regulation, food safety and restaurant inspections, Dog Law enforcement and kennel licensure, the use of pesticides and the administration of state-funded programs to promote agriculture in Pennsylvania.
The Gaming Oversight Committee is responsible for overseeing Pennsylvania's gaming industry, including the dealings of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
“Serving on the State Government Committee gives me the opportunity to pursue various reform proposals I’ve been weighing since my days as a citizen activist a decade a and a half ago, and a seat on the Finance Committee will allow me to make Lebanon County's voice louder as we take a much-needed look at overhauling Pennsylvania's antiquated systems of taxation. I am thrilled with these new assignments,” Diamond added.
The State Government Committee is responsible for reviewing proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, as well as legislation dealing with statewide initiatives, the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, the Regulatory Review Act, legislative redistricting, Election Code reform, lobbyist disclosure and campaign financing.
The Finance Committee reviews legislation that establishes rules governing state and local tax legislation, as well as the Fiscal Code.
